Calumet Lead Crisis Update – 5 Oct

The Chicago Tribune looks at the situation for Calumet residents as the largest displacement of families in the region in two decades looms closer. Despite the well-publicized difficulties West Calumet Complex residents are having in finding new homes, East Chicago mayor Anthony Copeland states that “Nobody gets thrown out. Not under my watch.”

The lead and arsenic crisis in East Chicago was not mentioned at last night’s Vice Presidential debate, tho it did come up today’s Indiana State Board of Education meeting.

  1. IT”s all so sad , where are all these families going?, I grew up there and i know theres no available housing, i pray God touches the heart of the people in control . HOw can anyone lie down in the comfort of their warm homes and beds knowing so many families are wondering where they will be tomorrow. Remember God requires we take care one another.
