Calumet Lead Crisis Update – 15 Sept

Indiana Public Broadcasting reports the state has approved a $3 million disaster relief loan for the School City of East Chicago. Improvements included lowering toilets and sinks to elementary school-age children, clearing out insect infestations, converting classrooms, and cleaning a building that sat empty for a year. The East Chicago school superintendent Paige McNulty and state senator Eddie Melton, who helped secure the funding, hope the state will eventually forgive the loan.
