Calumet Lead Crisis Update – 18 Aug

Residents of the soon-to-be evacuated West Calumet Complex (zone 1) are organizing a list of demands around rental credits, the return of security deposits, a halt to fines and deductions, an end of intimidation from the housing authority, waivers of previous fines, free comprehensive health screenings, expansion of air, ground, and water testing, among other things. A report from the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law describing the relocation process as “dysfunctional” was described in this mornings NWI Times.
